PRESTIGE MX1-MX2 ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 – OTTOBIANO (PV)
March 13, 2025
On Sunday at the South Milano circuit in Ottobiano (PV) the 2025 season of the Italian MX1-MX2 Pro Prestige Championship kicked off.
A sandy track, an absolute novelty for the Italian Championship, which put both the bikes and the riders to the test!
In the MX2 category, lined up with the small 125cc machines, Gennaro Utech and Riccardo Pini took to the track with the sole aim of gaining experience on a demanding terrain such as sand, with a view to the forthcoming European Championship trials.
Luca Rosati, however, was absent due to a minor injury suffered in training last week. He is expected to return for the second round of the Italian championship in Mantua on 30 March.
In Saturday’s qualifying Gennaro posted the 14th fastest time in his group, while Riccardo, who did not immediately find the right feeling with the track, missed out on Group A by just nine tenths of a second.
Utech’s heats were characterised by difficult starts: the displacement gap between his 125cc 2-stroke and the 250cc 4-stroke certainly had an influence, especially on a deep and sandy surface like the one at Ottobiano. Nevertheless, Gennaro did not give up and fought in both races, showing great speed!
In the first heat, after a start in 22nd position, he recovered up to 16th place, but a contact with another driver four laps from the end caused him to slip to 22nd. He finished 6th in the Fast and 20th overall.
The second heat went off without any particular problems, finishing 3rd of the Fast and 17th overall.
Thanks to these two results, Gennaro Utech conquers the third step of the MX2 Fast podium!
For Riccardo, on the other hand, two excellent heats in Group B: holeshot in race 1 and victory in both heats.
Gennaro Utech: ‘The race went really well, taking third place in MX2 Fast! Too bad about the contact in race 1 while I was 14th, which made me finish only 20th. In race 2, a difficult start forced me to fight my way back up to 17th position, finishing 3rd of the Fast.’
Mattia Serafini (Team Manager): A very positive weekend! It was just a training race on a challenging track before the international races. Without a few hiccups in qualifying the result could have been even better, but I am very happy with Gennaro’s third place!
As for Riccardo, unfortunately he paid for his lack of feeling in qualifying, but he still won both Group B races and took the holeshot in race 1!
