MXGP Indonesia Pangkal Pinang
July 5, 2018
The first of the two demanding races in Indonesia was held in Pangkal Pinang, a track made difficult by adverse weather conditions, last year on the same track was canceled the second heat of the MXGP. Fortunately the bad weather gave respite in the weekend and the track even if made very soft by the rains of the previous days has made the track even more difficult.
Max Nagl in timed qualifying could not find the right feeling on the muddy track, failing to achieve a good result.
At the start of the qualifying heats Max can not get a good idea at the exit from the gate but thanks to a portentous comeback he managed to finish in eleventh place.
In race 1 Max managed to start very well and in the first part of the race he held a very high pace that led him up to the eighth position, Nagl was running with shorter times than the opponents that preceded him but due to a technical problem he was forced to retire.
In the second moto Nagl wanted to make changes to the setting of his bike to try to improve his race, but these changes did not lead to the desired result but they did not give the German driver the possibility to drive as he would have liked to end with a good thirteenth place.
The Tm Factory team will move to Semarang for the second Indonesian race in the coming days.
Marco Ricciardi comments on the race: “Troubled weekend, the Pangkal Pinang track is always very difficult and difficult due to the rain that makes it slippery and deep channels are formed and is to be interpreted at every turn. We worked very well on Saturday trying different solutions even with the very heavy track we found a good setting of the bike. In the warm-up we worked again and we thought with these last changes to be in place for the race. We started very hard the first heat we were eighth with good lap times unfortunately a technical problem forced us to retire, a very heavy zero because we were fighting for high-level positions in the overall standings. In the second run the conditions had changed and we made some bad decisions that penalized us.
Max is working very well as a great professional, we do not give up and go to Semarang to make up and attack to consolidate our position in the championship.”
